For nearly a year, our collective community of Human Resource professionals has been keenly aware of the contentious split between the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) and the HR Certification Institute (HRCI).  And in the wake of last May’s announcement by SHRM that it would begin offering new, competency-based certifications, concern and confusion have abounded. What led to this divide? Will HR professionals now need to carry the burden of two sets of certifications? Which organization will recognize what? Thankfully, our speaker this month will help will to clarify the facts while separating myth from reality. Program content will cover…

  • The history of both SHRM and HRCI.
  • Why the split occurred.
  • The stance of top management at HRCI.
  • A comparison of the S/PHR (HRCI) and SHRM-S/CP examinations.
  • The differences between knowledge-based and competency-based testing.
  • Which should certifications HR professionals should acquire going forward.
  • The status of free SHRM certifications in 2015.
