Welcome to the Triangle Society for Human Resource Management (TSHRM)! TSHRM serves HR professionals in Durham, Research Triangle Park (RTP), Chapel Hill and surrounding areas.

What if Harry Potter left Hogwart’s and stumbled into Sally Bowles’ Berlin cabaret by mistake? What if he sat next to an oddly matched, funny couple who sounded remarkably like Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan? In this generational mash-up of filmic icons, confusion and hilarity would likely ensue. And yet when generations collide in the workplace, it can be serious business.

 

There is a great generational shift underway in today’s workforce. We are at an epic turning point where a variety of differing norms and values are changing the fundamentals of the employment relationship. What you don’t understand about each of the five generations can hurt the bottom line. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

 

In this lively, interactive session, we will explore the qualities, styles, and biases of each generation; learn simple, easy ways to work best with each; and have fun along the way. Walk away with a better understanding of:

 

·        Each generation’s biases, styles, and preferred communication channels

·        How to better recruit, develop, retain, and excite younger workers

·        The new definition of loyalty for younger workers

·        How to think differently about your longtime workers as well as your new hires

·        How to work best with each generation

Better Baseball: Creating an Analytics Dream Team for Your Business

The film Moneyball is based on the true-life story of the Oakland Athletics baseball team and their general manager Billy Beane. Confronted with a limited budget, Beane and his crew transformed their scouting approach and built a team of undervalued talent through analytics—specifically, the application of statistical analysis to baseball records. Their scrappy, strong team went on to surprise the world and tie for the longest-running winning streak in American League history. 

Organizations can similarly benefit from building a culture of analytics and helping everyone understand their value. Analytics drive better, faster, more neutral decision making. Putting them into action helps you predict future talent needs, identify top and undervalued talent, spot upcoming turnover, identify what makes a great manager, and more. To do this, you need the data, the right tools, and a phased approach.

In this session, you will learn how to:

  • Begin building a successful culture of analytics in your organization
  • Understand the key drivers of analytics success
  • Create a road map and strategic objectives that align with your HR vision
  • Build an analytics “dream team” (Spoiler alert! It’s not just data scientists.)

About the Speakers:

Jenn Mann, Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer -

Jenn Mann leads a global HR organization that acts as stewards of the SAS culture and engages a diverse workforce of more than 14,000 employees. She is responsible for developing and guiding SAS’ talent management philosophy, as well as articulating the organization’s strategy for acquiring, developing, rewarding and retaining the best talent. Her workplace culture insights have been shared in The Wall Street Journal, US News & World Report, CBS MoneyWatch.com, CBS Sunday Morning, CNN, The Huffington Post, and The Great Workplace by Michael Burchell and Jennifer Robin.  Mann was selected as HRO Magazine’s Chief Human Resources Officer of the Year in 2015.

Jennifer Nenadic, Senior Manager, Data and Analytics, IT Enterprise Solutions -

With a background in data management and analytics, Jennifer has aided SAS’ leaders and external customers in strengthening their business by strategically transforming their current systems into intelligence-generating solutions using advanced analytics techniques and data management best practices. Jennifer has worked with clients across various industries to find creative designs and solutions to meet their evolving business needs. Jennifer holds Bachelor’s degrees in Computer Science and Textile Engineering as well as a Master’s degree in Advanced Analytics from North Carolina State University.

Theresa Barber, Director, HR Business Operations -  

Theresa is responsible for creating alignment across SAS’ HR technologies.  She leads a team of business analysts in the development and implementation of business processes, establishment of key connection points between technologies and creating a seamless employee experience as we attract, develop and retain talent.  Theresa received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.  She has 19 years of Human Resources experience in the high tech industry. Theresa is a member of the National Society of Human Resources Management and has participated in one of SAS’ high potential
