A Brief Business Case Overview for TSHRM's Diversity and Inclusion Efforts

TSHRM is committed to diversity in our workplaces, in our community, and in our membership. With the looming retirement wave of Baby Boomers and the growing segment of the global workforce being comprised primarily of women and people of color, area employers must enhance their overall cultural competence so that they can effectively attract, develop, engage and retain a global and multicultural workforce. Organizational and leadership practices must be inclusive in order to create a healthy working relationship between employees and the enterprise. Triangle employers must continuously grow in this area. TSHRM's Diversity Director and committee would like to help facilitate the process by ensuring TSHRM provides resources, information and "Thought Leadership” to prepare the Triangle for the future. Triangle employers should think of TSHRM first when they seek answers to questions regarding multiculturalism and inclusion.

What is Diversity?

Diversity encompasses all the ways that human beings are both similar and different. It also involves variations and factors over which we have control as well as those over which we have no choice. These factors give us areas of commonality through which we can connect with others and aspects of difference from which we can learn (Gardenswartz and Rowe, Managing Diversity: A Complete Desk Reference & Planning Guide).

TSHRM Diversity Goals

  • Plan and coordinate workshops on the benefits of diversity/inclusion in the workplace
  • Develop mentoring programs with member organizations
  • Serve as a resource to area employers and TSHRM members on matters concerning diversity
  • Contribute relevant information to the TSHRM newsletter and website

Calling all Diversity Committee Volunteers
