About TSHRM

The Triangle Society for Human Resource Management (TSHRM) is a non-profit, professional association of individuals sharing an interest in the practice of human resource management. TSHRM has been an affiliated chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) since 1966. SHRM is the national association for HR professionals, based in Alexandria, Virginia. HR professionals may choose to join one or both associations. Membership is separate and membership criteria differ. TSHRM recommends (although does not require) membership in both associations to take full advantage of the benefits of professional association.

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is the world’s largest association devoted to human resource management. Representing more than 225,000 individual members, the Society's mission is to serve the needs of HR professionals by providing the most essential and comprehensive resources available. As an influential voice, the Society's mission is also to advance the human resource profession to ensure that HR is recognized as an essential partner in developing and executing organizational strategy. Founded in 1948, SHRM currently has more than 575 affiliated chapters within the United States and members in more than 125 countries. Visit SHRM Online at www.shrm.org.

TSHRM provides opportunities and support for HR professionals in the Research Triangle Area. TSHRM, formerly Durham-Triangle Personnel Association, was founded in 1965 and affiliated with SHRM on February 14, 1966. TSHRM's membership now includes over 350 HR professionals employed in many industries as specialists and generalists, individual contributors, consultants, managers and more.

The purpose of TSHRM is to provide a local forum for personal and professional development; provide an opportunity to develop leadership, managerial, public speaking and group decision-making skills; provide a local networking arena; and to provide a focus for legislative attention to local, state and national human resource management issues. TSHRM exists to promote the professionalism of the HR field by providing a wide variety of professional development opportunities and a common forum in which to share ideas and experiences. The chapter offers members networking opportunities, programs, workshops and current information about the ever-changing human resource management profession. TSHRM is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors.
