Have you ever wanted to serve on a Board of Directors or Leadership Team, but the positions available weren't quite the right fit?  Or, you felt like you didn't have the skills or time?  Well, TSHRM has some fresh changes coming for 2019!

We're exploding and stepping outside-of-the box.  YOU have the opportunity to create your own position!!  What are you passionate about? What drives you? What impact and legacy do you want to leave on the Triangle HR community at large?

The only requirements we have are to be: 1.) realistic about how your position will meet it's goals (e.g. lots of great ideas, but consider time and resources) and 2.) ready to commit to your passion (e.g. if the current Board approves, you're ready to hit the ground running)!

All sounds good?  Send us an email (president@tshrm.com) with the following:

  • Name
  • Contact information
  • Position idea
  • How are you going to execute it

Cheers to renewed beginnings!!  We can’t wait to hear from you!

January Chapter Lunch Meeting

Planning Your Legacy

Thursday, January 17th

11:30am registration/lunch ~ 12:00pm - 1:00pm program

“The best way to predict the future is to create it.” –Abraham Lincoln

Long-term care affects more than just the elderly or ill. Family members are both physically and mentally out of pocket and away from their jobs and other responsibilities in order to provide the care. After months or years, this takes a toll on their mental health, work contributions, and your business.

With 70% of people age 65 and over needing long-term care at some point in their lives, the chances that you and your employees will be affected is significant. Consider this: of the 40 million family caregivers, about 1 in 4 is part of the millennial generation.

Planning for long-term care can protect financial security, family relationships, and an employee’s ability to contribute meaningful work to their company. Join us for an interactive session that explores personal and professional long-term care planning. We will:

·       Create a personal long-term care plan to share with your families

·       Examine how your company communicates long-term care planning to your employees and identify ways to improve this process

·       Uncover the best ways to talk to parents and in-laws about their long-term care plans

About the speaker:

Barbara W. DeBerry is a Long-Term Care Specialist and Financial Advisor with Northwestern Mutual in Durham. Her practice focuses on protecting the family relationships, financial security, and legacies of her clients through long-term care planning and its integration into holistic financial plans.

Prior to joining Northwestern Mutual in 1996, she worked for eleven years in the banking industry as a commercial lender and private banking manager. Barbara sits on the board of Caring House, is a member of the Steering Committee of Dementia Inclusive Durham, and is the facilitator for Memory Matters, a resident support group at Croasdaile Village. Her personal extended care experiences within her family and those of her clients have strengthened her commitment to widespread education for consumers and their advisors.
